Choosing and storing
Storing firelighters: the place, the pack and seasonal stock
Choose a storage place before buying a larger pack. The original label gives the conditions for your product; a neat shelf or closed container is useful only when it also meets those conditions.
Keep the labelled packaging
The pack identifies the product and carries its instructions and warnings. Keep these readable after opening. Do not decant cubes into a food jar or mix remnants from different products. When selecting a tube or a flat pack, consider whether the original packaging will fit in the designated storage location.
Choose conditions from the label
Keep firelighters away from heat and ignition sources and out of children’s reach. Follow the product’s temperature, moisture and ventilation instructions. A spot beside the fireplace may be convenient but unsuitable. Do not leave packs on a hot grill, in direct sun or in another place that fails the stated storage requirements.
Inspect old stock before use
Check pack integrity, legibility and any shelf-life information actually printed by the manufacturer. Do not invent an expiry date from the appearance of the cubes. If packaging is damaged or the product has been exposed to unsuitable conditions, ask the supplier how to proceed. Follow the label and local arrangements for disposal.
Buy an amount you can manage
Estimate demand from your normal, label-compliant use. A bigger pack is useful only if you can store it correctly and keep track of it. For shops, keep delivery batches identifiable, inspect stock regularly and use a consistent rotation method. Confirm carton dimensions before allocating space; never store stock next to a working heat source.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 180-cube tube a substitute for storage precautions?
No. Its shape may help keep cubes together, but the label’s storage conditions still apply. Keep it in the original pack and in a suitable place.
